Peter became Albany's City Manager in June 2017. Previously he served as Deputy City Manager in Bothell, WA. Retired from military service in February 2014. During a 30-year active duty Coast Guard career as a helicopter pilot, highlights of service included assignments as Commanding Officer of Air Station Savannah, GA, Commander of Group and Air Station Astoria, OR, Chief of Staff for the Eighth Coast Guard District in New Orleans during the Deepwater Horizon explosion and cleanup operations, and Military Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. Peter is Credentialed as a City Manager by the International City Management Association and is a member of the Oregon City/County Management Association. He graduated from UCLA with a BA in Political Science and Scandinavian Languages, and holds a Masters in Public Administration from George Washington University, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the USAF Air War College.
