About Us

Downtown Albany sits at the heart of three National Register Historic Districts—the Downtown Commercial, Monteith and Hackleman districts—and is home to an extraordinary collection of historic architecture.

Buildings and homes dating from the mid-1800s through the early 20th century showcase a remarkable range of architectural styles, from pioneer-era structures and Italianate mansions to Queen Anne, Craftsman, Gothic Revival, French Second Empire and more. At the western edge of downtown stands the 1849 Monteith House, Albany’s first frame house and one of Oregon’s most authentically restored pioneer-era homes.

But Downtown Albany isn’t simply a place to look at history—it’s a place to enjoy. Locally owned restaurants, shops and galleries fill historic storefronts, while community events bring the streets to life throughout the year. Come for the history and architecture; stay for the food, shopping, arts and unmistakable character of Downtown Albany.
