Position Summary
The President/Chief Executive Officer, by authority granted by the Board of Directors, directs and leads the Chamber toward its mission. This is a pivotal leadership role presenting both a challenge and an opportunity — to modernize and lead a thriving, community-anchored organization into its next era of growth and impact.

The President/CEO is responsible for the Chamber’s program of work and all staffing and administrative concerns. They work directly with the board on policy making and strategy for the organization and serve as the primary staff point of contact for the officers, executive committee, board of directors, elected officials, general public, and business community.
 

Desired Knowledge and Skills
 Chamber of Commerce and/or 501(c)(6) Organizational Management experience – 5+ years
 Graduate of U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute (IOM) or WACE Academy
 Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
 Effective interpersonal and leadership skills
 Strong computer and organizational skills
 Supervision/management experience of staff and volunteers
 Ability to deal effectively with the public in a professional manner
 Proven experience in budget development, financial management, and controls
 Self-management and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
 Advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite) and ability to learn ChamberMaster database

 Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation
 Education: Bachelor’s degree or commensurate years of relevant experience

Reports to: Executive Committee
Key Result Area #1: Liaison to the Board of Directors
 Work with the Board of Directors in the development and implementation of the Chamber’s Strategic Plan. Monitor progress across staff, committees, and task forces.
 Develop the annual budget for approval by the Treasurer, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors. Oversee all expenditures and ensure efficiency in financial procedures.
 Ensure the Chamber’s policies are properly administered and interpreted by staff and board.
 Collaborate with staff on proposals and tactical plans related to revenue, public relations, and member engagement.
 Work with staff to develop proposals that align financial resources with operational and program needs.
 Represent the Chamber before elected, civic, and community groups to ensure public awareness of the Chamber’s mission and activities.
 Actively engage and advocate politically with local government officials to represent the Chamber’s interests, build strong relationships, and influence policies that support the Albany area business community.

Key Result Area #2: Internal Operations Management
 Develop and administer systems and procedures to implement and monitor policies, plans, programs, and budgets.
 Analyze financial data and reports, collaborating with the Treasurer to maintain financial health and recommend action when necessary.
 Alert the Executive Committee to incidents, trends, or events that may impact members or the community.

Key Result Area #3: Personnel Management
 Supervise and coordinate duties of all staff members.
 Maintain a fair and consistent performance evaluation system.
 Keep detailed personnel files.
 Review job descriptions and the Personnel Policy Manual annually for relevance.
 Implement staff development programs, including training in customer service, technology, and professional development.
 Administer employee benefits. 

Key Result Area #4: Programming / Committee Coordination
 Lead coordination of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Governmental Affairs Committee, Good Government Council (PAC), and Leadership Albany program.
 Plan and organize effective meetings to motivate volunteer leaders.
 Set agendas, record minutes, and support recruitment for board and committee roles.
 Communicate board/committee activities to members, media, and the community.
 Ensure deadlines, budgets, and policies are followed as laid out in the Strategic Plan.
 Leverage software to present a professional and effective public image.
 Serve as program liaison to assist staff on events and initiatives.
 Drive member recruitment and retention strategies to grow and sustain the Chamber’s membership base, ensuring strong engagement and satisfaction for current and prospective members.
